Surrey Farms

Surrey, British Columbia

Toronto - February 4th, 2022 - The final stop on my tour de Surrey ended with a well-known Surrey farm. I visited one of the two locations, conveniently located just west on 40 Avenue and north on 152 Street, about 4 minutes from my last stop. This particular location was a bit off the beaten path (despite being so close), as its driveway was located off of a small road. As my GPS took me on the small road, I spotted a banner reading ‘Surrey Farms’ on the gate that lined the perimeter of the farm.

I pulled into the busy parking lot, parked the car in one of the unpaved spots, and got out of the car to admire the huge fields surrounding me . Fields in which workers were picking fruits at that moment (very cool to see, may I add). After admiring my surroundings, I made my way to the large white tent that held the market. The tent was lined with fresh fruits and vegetables grown directly from their farm. Though not large, I took my time to explore the entire tent. Along the way, I chatted briefly with a lovely couple who were stocking their fridge after recently returning home from a trip to celebrate Christmas with their family (you heard me, I said CHRISTMAS in JULY… damn Covid).

The Surrey Farm’s family’s first market was built in 1989 at 5180 152 Street and consisted of a five by five box. This is where they sold their berries before they expanded. Today, Surrey Farms has become a South Surrey staple. They are best known for their exceptional fresh berries, however, have also been recognized as a one stop location for all local fruits and vegetables.

Calling all Surrey locals - be sure to add Surrey Farms to your list for your next grocery run! Before you visit, check out their website for more information.
