Erin Farmers’ Market

Erin, Ontario

Vaughan - November 6th, 2022 - It was the last Friday of September in 2021, when Christina and I drove west through Brampton and north towards Erin on a Friday evening. The end goal of our journey was to visit Spirit Tree Cider, however, this next farmers’ market was in my sights for some time so the plan to drive in that direction on a Friday night anyways was perfect. As we drove into downtown Erin on Wellington Street we spotted the sign for Erin Farmers’ Market on the left hand side of the road.

We parked on the street and walked across to McMillan Park where the market was held. The market closes at 7pm, so since we got there at 6:30pm the crowd had already died down. What usually happens before market close is that the vendors start packing their booths. But the vendors at Erin Farmers’ Market were so incredibly gracious and thoughtful that they all stayed open and gave us the opportunity to speak to each and every one of them. From speaking with the vendors, we learned we attended the last market of the season - and boy am I happy we got the chance before the end of the season!

The Erin Farmers Market cultivates a space for sharing and celebrating local culture through food, music, and artisan goods. Market vendors offer a wide selection of local products ranging from fresh produce and baked goods to clothing, cocktails, candles, heritage meats and award-winning farmstead cheeses, artisan breads, jams, pickles, cut flowers, wine, beer, maple syrup and so much more. They also had live music - that particular night was a performance by Emily Gilbert Music.

In 2022 and forward, however, the market was changed to Thursday due to the feedback from the community. Fridays were hit and miss with some shoppers. They also changed locations! While McMillan Park served as a quaint, beautiful site for the market, it has become clear that if the market was to expand, they needed to find a bigger location. The market is now held at the Fairgrounds!

With all of these new changes, I will definitely be back to the market in 2023 to see everything that is new! I definitely recommend Erin Farmers’ Market to locals and drivebys as a great place to spend a summer evening. Check out their website before your visit.
